Just to recap, it’s a great way to give out your email address for newsletters without giving out your actual email address. That way you can filter messages that come to that email address either to a special folder, or if it becomes a problem, straight to the trash.
Here’s how to do it:
If your email address is firstname.lastname@example.org and you want to sign up for a newsletter about gardens, you could just tell them your email address is email@example.com and any email sent to that email address will get automatically sent to your normal firstname.lastname@example.org address. If you get tired of getting email there, filter it to the trash but still get any email sent to your normal email address.
It’s that simple! Just add -whateveryouwanthere to your username before the @ symbol.
